Emerging Tech in Education

130 Queens Quay East - Room 232

Some predict that we are about to transition from the information age to the experiential age with Extended Reality (XR), a term that encompasses virtual, augmented and mixed/merged reality. These nascent technologies are poised to teleport students from the classroom to new, immersive and interactive worlds. The question on the minds of most educators is whether these experiences will be simply novel or whether they will in fact enhance or transform learning. In this session, we will discuss how XR, primarily virtual reality (VR), is likely to affect the learning landscape in terms of simulation-based learning, teaching empathy and social VR as a synchronized online learning platform.
